PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — FBI agents arrested a 23-year-old man accused of trying to open an emergency exit during his plane’s descent into Portland International Airport.

FBI spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele says passengers and crew aboard the Alaska Airlines flight from Anchorage to Portland told investigators that Alexander Michael Herrera made “unusual statements” before trying to open the door Monday at about 5:20 a.m.

A passenger told KGW-TV he and others used shoelaces and seat-belt extensions to restrain Herrera until the flight landed.

There were no injuries.
